About Our Chapter

The Southeastern Chapter of the NYSSFA represents Facility Directors, Managers, and Superintendents of Buildings & Grounds for school districts across Putnam and Westchester Counties.

A Commitment to Our Schools

Much more than four walls, a roof and a whiteboard, today’s school buildings and campuses are extremely complicated — as is the job of maintaining them. As a result, today’s directors of school facilities have myriad responsibilities requiring them to know engineering and architecture, health and safety, education, finance and human resource management.

The New York State School Facilities Association (NYSSFA) serves as a voice for more than 600 Directors of School Facilities, Facilities Managers, Head Custodians, Health and Safety Coordinators, and other key school facilities personnel. The Association provides its members with professional development opportunities, legal advice, facilities resources, education and training and more.

NYSSFA has maintained a vocal and visible presence among state lawmakers and policymakers to promote facilities managers and the importance of having strong maintenance programs at our schools.

As one of 18 SFA chapters, the Southeastern Chapter represents area members and our website is here to provide information on training and education, upcoming events, and separate directories of our chapter members and business partners.

Our monthly meetings and events provide a forum for discussion of key issues facing our schools and possible solutions, building strong professional relationships, and opportunities for advancement in your field and professional organization.

Topics might include:

  • Rescue standards
  • Purchasing
  • State regulations
  • Staffing issues and solutions
  • Best cleaning practices
  • Roof maintenance and repair
  • Boiler optimization
  • Irrigation of athletic fields
  • Lead abatement
  • Mold remediation
  • Preparing for summer projects

Whatever the specifics, chapter participants exchange information on pressing local issues, and serve as a source of mutual support. Chapters also provide opportunities to learn about new vendor products and services, and connect with the state Association.
